SuperMokh Cup 2015 – the perfect ground for nations’ youth players to gain international exposure

(Kuala Lumpur) – The second edition of the SuperMokh Cup, an international invitational competition is set to begin on Monday. It serves as the perfect ground for the nations’ youth players to gain international exposure given that it will see up to 30 international teams competing in two categories- Under 12’s & Under 13’s.
Renowned teams such as Manchester City (England), Rayo Vallecano(Spain), GNK Dinamo Zagreb(Croatia) and Corinthians FC (Brazil) are set to lock horns with giants from the J-League and K-League such as Gamba Osaka, Kashiwa Reysol, Suwon Samsung Bluewings and the defending champions from the inaugural SuperMokh Cup in 2014, Pohang Steelers. The under-13 category will feature 17 international teams and the nations’ hopes will be carried by 3 project teams, namely Malaysia Cougars U13, Malaysia Tigers U13 as well as Malaysia Panthers U13.
The Under-12 category’s main attraction will be the Asian Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande’s academy team. Aside from that, teams such as Bunyodkor(Uzbekistan), Sepahan(Iran) as well as clubs from Korea and Thailand will join project teams from the Philippines and Bangladesh in offering a stiff test for the local teams. Malaysia Cougars U12 and Malaysia Panthers U12 will be looked upon alongside 1MCC,Bintang Biru,Jeonsa, CIMB-YFA and Tunas Lagenda to represent the nations’ challenge.
According to its’ Lead Director, Safirul Azli Abu Bakar, the SuperMokh Cup serves as a yearly closing event for the activities organised by the National Football Development Program(NFDP).
“As known to all, the U12 and U13 project teams have undergone a tour of Europe, United Kingdom, Asia and Asean countries throughout the year. They have gone through an extensive international exposure, for some of them it was their first time playing overseas and this program helps a lot in building their confidence. With the SuperMokh Cup, it is another opportunity for our local youths to measure up against the international teams as well as giving the local fans a chance to see for themselves where our youths’ playing quality really stands.”
Coaches under the NFDP umbrella will also stand to gain much by learning from the coaching and organising skills on show throughout the tournament.
“We see this tournament as being beneficial to all the parties involved in football development. We have called upon all the head coaches from Akademi Tunas programs to be present and analyse every participating teams. This is the perfect platform for not only the players, but the coaches, management and local fans as well to gain something new” he quips.
The main tournament venue will be the artificial grass pitch in Majlis Sukan Negara, Bukit Jalil. The other venues are the Kompleks Sukan Negara Panasonic, Shah Alam, Kompleks Sukan Maybank, Bangi and Akademi KLFA, Taman Melati. The tournament will begin on Monday (7th December 2015) and end on Sunday (13th December 2015).
